Reflections

Below are my notes for Po-Hsien and Maddy to prepare their rooms based on their concept presentations.

Maddy:

1. Create the Expressionist painting using PhotoShop and the "offset" filter to blend seamless edges. Give this as 512 x 512 pixel .jpg to Glenn by 11/12 or as soon as possible.

2. Draw a profile of the 19th c. Classical Revival (giving a sense of wealth) column bedposts in AutoCad and give to Glenn to spline it and use the lathe command to make them into forms. Give to Glenn by 11/9 if possible.

3. Give the door image as a .jpg to Glenn by 11/9.

4. Make decisions on the floor, bedspread, and ceiling colors and/or texture. Let Glenn know your ideas via email by 11/14 (copy email to me and class). Glenn can then guide you on how to prepare these for him.

5. Make your process page with credits for all music and images not your own, list assistance from whomever assists you, and list the software you used as part of your process journal page. Get a draft of your process page on the Web for us to critique by 11/14. You can add to it later and refine it but set a goal to have a draft of it by 11/14.

6. Review video with me and then save for web and give to Glenn by 11/16.

7. Give Glenn your 3 animations (desire, etc.) on zip by 11/9.

Po-Hsien:

1. Create Memphis style furniture in 3D Studio assigning each a material or color. Give most or all to Glenn by 11/19.

2. Review video with me and then save for web and place on your Web site.

3. Make decisions on the floor and ceiling colors and/or texture. Let Glenn know your ideas via email by 11/14 (copy email to me and class).

4. Create objects to sit on furniture (like bowling ball or money) that will be hotspots with links to Internet sites of a game and shopping site, etc. Give list of objects your are creating with their corresponding URL to Glenn via email (copied to me and class) by 11/12.

Hi Glenn & all in Art 5366,

All should save your movie to WWW format.

Cut out all jerks and piece in close-ups to remove awkward camera movements. The close-ups are useful to avoid "jump cuts." Cut out anything not poignant for your video. Look carefully and see if there are any seconds, any movements that are not essential. For example, Po-Hsien we see the flag 2 times in yours. Once is enough to convey the message "arrival in USA.". The second shot of the flag is a smoother camera movement than the first and works better after she arrives (getting in car) to provide context of where she has arrived and is starting her new life. I'd cut out the first pan of the flag. Would your video Po-Hsien fit more under the culture aspect of your concept than the narcissistic area?

Email me about the suggestions I make above.

All parts that all students create for their rooms should be given to Glenn by Monday, Nov. 19th which will allow a week for him to assemble before we do the camera shots for the panoramic fly-through views on 11/28. This will allow another week to refine the rooms for premiere on 12/5.

From 8:45 to 9:20 p.m. next Weds., 11/14 what would be the most productive thing to do with that time? By then we would have seen each other's concepts and Glenn would have given ideas on how to translate those concepts into the room. Perhaps Glenn you could focus on helping one student--perhaps Adetty's concept and we would watch to get a sense of what is involved. That way Glenn would not be pulled from one person to another but could spend an hour with realizing one aspect of Adetty's room. I think we'd all benefit from watching this.
