Coordinator: Karen Keifer-Boyd Welcome to the CSTAE! I hope you will dialogue with each in the CSTAE online asynchronistic discussion site. Perhaps respond to some of the issues Ken Marantz raises in the July 2000 newsletter. Or start your own thread. Remember that proposals for CSTAE sessions at NAEA are due by the end of July. The number of presentation time slots allotted by NAEA is determined by the number of proposals submitted under the CSTAE category. Members and non-members (who we hope will join CSTAE) are encouraged to submit. The theme for JSTAE, volume 21 (deadline for JSTAE submission of manuscripts, art, and reviews is Oct. 15, 2000) and for the 2001 CSTAE/NAEA conference in NYC is "Social Action with Children and Youth." Conference proposals outside of this theme are welcomed too! Postcards with an Edge: The Caucus on Social Theory & Art Education is seeking your help in publicizing a request to art teachers for postcards describing or showing social theory in art education practice. The postcards will be exhibited at several universities, displayed at the NAEA conference in NYC, published on the CSTAE Web site and published in The Journal of Social Theory in Art Education (vol. 21, June 2001). Click here for more information. I want to thank past coordinators, Gayle Weitz and Ed Check for mentoring me in taking over the CSTAE coordinator position. I thank Hank Foreman for being on top of the membership and mailing labels as he completes his 2 year term this month (July 2000) as CSTAE treasurer. And, I weclome Sara Wilson McKay in taking over the treasurer position. I also want to thank Dennis Fehr for covering for me at the Delegates Assembly in LA during the times I could not attend and for the stimulating NAEA columns, even the one that was censored by the NAEA. You will find them all by clicking on NAEA News columns. I truly appreciate Mike Emme's support as he took on the role of coordinator-elect. The social event he organized in LA was a special time in meeting old and new members. I thank Kim Cosier for the fine job of recording the annual business meeting minutes and for her input at the Executive Board meeting. And I thank Shirley Hayes Yokley-Witzel for initiating and producing this online newsletter, July 2000. Sincerely, |
